The four choral ensembles of the Worcester Children’s Chorus meet for rehearsals during the school year at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury Street in Worcester.

Da Capo – Wednesdays 5.00 – 6.00pm Founder’s Hall, Room 44 – Associate Director Phillip Montgomery

Da Capo is the WCC’s entry-level choir for students in grades 3 – 5. These singers meet every Wednesday of the school year from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at Assumption College, Worcester. Da Capo participates in two to three scheduled performances per year and a commitment to these performances is required. Students do not need to be able to read music; they must just love to sing!  It is a friendly, non-competitive environment where each child develops healthy vocal habits while learning the basics of reading music and making new friends.

Young Artists – Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:00pm  Kennedy Hall, Room 105 – Associate Director Phillip Montgomery

The Young Artists choir for is for students in grades 5 – 7 who have completed a year in Da Capo, or who demonstrate the ability to sing at an intermediate level. These singers meet every Wednesday of the school year from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Assumption College, Worcester. Young Artists participates in several scheduled performances per year and a commitment to these performances is required. It is a friendly, non-competitive environment where each child develops healthy vocal habits while learning the basics of reading music and making new friends.

Bel Canto – Tuesdays 5:00 -6:30pm Founders Hall, Room 44 – Artistic Director Dr. Pamela Mindell

The Bel Canto ensemble is primarily for students in grades 6-8 who have completed either at least a year in Young Artists or who demonstrate the ability to sing at a high intermediate level. This group meets from 5:00-6:30pm at Assumption College, Worcester each Tuesday of the school year. Students sing in a variety of different musical styles under the larger Classical umbrella (Classical pieces, folk songs, spirituals, canons, etc…). While sightreading is not required for entry into Bel Canto, learning healthy vocal technique and music literacy skills are built into each rehearsal with the goal of helping students start to learn to read over the course of the year. Bel Canto typically has 1-2 performances each semester, ideally with at least one large collaboration with orchestra and/or an adult ensemble. The group does tour occasionally and was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall during the 2014-2015 Season.

Cantare – Tuesdays  7:00-8:45pm Kennedy Hall, Room 105 – Artistic Director Dr. Pamela Mindell

Cantare Singers, the oldest and most select choir of the Worcester Children’s Chorus, is open to high school-aged singers with a good deal of prior musical experience. The group meets from 7:00-8:45 pm at Assumption College, Worcester each Tuesday of the school year. Throughout the year, singers perform challenging repertoire in a variety of styles under the larger Classical umbrella (Classical pieces, folk songs, spirituals, world music, etc…). Students are continually challenged to improve their music literacy skills and to develop their vocal technique in a healthy way, with the ultimate goal of developing independent, confident musicians. Stronger reading skills are expected in this ensemble, and ear training and sight-reading techniques are used in increase literacy throughout the year. Cantare typically has 1-2 performances each semester, ideally with at least one large collaboration with orchestra and/or an adult ensemble. The group does tour occasionally was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall during the 2014-2015 Season.
