Your family will become a part of a community of singers committed to excellence, and inspired by music from all over the world. We welcome you!

OUR PROGRAMS

2021-2022 Choir Season (September – May)
This fall, we are excited to return to in-person rehearsals and performances.

WCC singers meet weekly throughout the school year to rehearse with their ensembles at Assumption University in Worcester. The entire chorus performs together at our Holiday concert in early December and our final concert in May.

In addition, exciting collaborative performances with other choral and musical groups are an important part of WCC. This spring, our middle and high school ensembles are collaborating with the Assumption University Choirs. Our Artistic Director is already busy finding new opportunities for our ensembles next year!

We fully intend to return to in-person rehearsals and performances this fall. However, we are paying close attention to the current guidelines about COVID rules for choral gatherings, and will continue to update our plans for the fall accordingly.

Worcester Children’s Chorus has five choral ensembles, offering age-appropriate instruction for singers ranging in age from 8 through 18. Artistic staff place children appropriately based on their audition. In the younger choirs, there will be some age/grade overlap, based upon a child’s previous musical experiences.

AUDITIONS

All children and youth ages 8-18 interested in joining the choir are required to audition. Complete the Audition Form to schedule your audition. We offer spring, late summer and January audition dates and will also happily audition on request. An audition with our directors is an encouraging, low-key experience and an opportunity to meet our artistic staff. They take great care to ensure that each singer is placed in the ensemble that best suits their ability level so they can sing, shine, and soar!

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

We are proud to provide financial assistance to families in need. For all of our programs, we do not want cost to be a factor in a child’s participation. For more information, please click the button to review and complete our Application for Need-Based Financial Aid.

DA CAPO (GRADES 3 - 5)

Da Capo is the WCC’s entry-level choir for children in Grades 3 through 5. It is a friendly, non-competitive environment where each child develops healthy vocal habits, learns the basics of reading music, and learns to thrive in a musical community of friends.

YOUNG ARTISTS (Grades 5 & 6)

The Young Artists ensemble is for children in Grades 5 and 6 who have completed a year in Da Capo, or who demonstrate the ability to sing at an intermediate level. It is a friendly, non-competitive environment where each child develops healthy vocal habits, learns to read music, and learns to thrive in a musical community of friends.

BEL CANTO (GRADES 6 - 8)

The Bel Canto ensemble is for students in Grades 6 through 8 who demonstrate the ability to sing at an intermediate level, or who have completed at least one year in the Young Artists choir. These singers build on their music literacy skills and continue to develop their individual voices. They also deepen their understanding of what it means to be part of a friendly, harmonious musical community.

CANTARE (GRADES 9 - 12)

The Cantare ensemble is for students in High School who demonstrate a good deal of previous musical experience, a strong personal connection to music, and a commitment to rehearsing and performing challenging repertoire at a high level. Singers will develop their individual and choral vocal skills while mastering more difficult music across a variety of musical styles.

BARITONES / CHANGING VOICES

The Baritone ensemble is open to students in Middle and High School who have changing voices. The changing voice is a developing instrument, and members will receive dedicated instruction on how to navigate this change. Singers are challenged to develop their individual and choral vocal skills while mastering more difficult musical repertoire across a variety of musical styles.

TOURING & TRAVEL

Fenway Park… London… Carnegie Hall… Montreal… WCC singers have performed around the US and internationally. These wonderful trips offer singers ages 12 and up the opportunity to explore new places and connect with broader musical communities here and abroad. Travel opportunities were suspended this year due to the pandemic, but will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.

Transformative Trips

Whether it’s a trip to London or NYC, touring with WCC is a transformative experience. We hear again and again from parents that their children come back from a tour with WCC more mature, responsible, confident, and devoted to the choir.

Take-Your-Breath-Away Moments

Choristers enjoy singing under the direction of renowned conductors, meeting other passionate singers from around the world, spending time with friends, and experiencing the magical take-your-breath-away moments of singing with a large festival choir.

DOING WHAT WE LOVE

“Visiting Canada was a great opportunity to get closer with my friends and try new things while doing what we love. Working with the other choruses in a beautiful church was such a great experience, and it was so fun to travel around with and get to know the other kids more. I really connected with some of my friends during our trip and we still talk about some great memories from traveling around together.”
